If there was any virtue left in my blog, I thought I'd drop it to the way side in the desire for humor...
Do you remember all those tv shows you watched as a kid? How wondrous it was to see the different worlds they all lived in. As you get older, that wonder sometimes disappears. Here's how such famous athletes as Michael Phelps bring back the good ol' days. Some say it may also assist in forgetting things like the bags of vinegar working at AIG.
As for the usual second topic, here it is: I waxed my car today.
When a long time cyclist cuts back the hours significantly and picks up the time on the weights, something odd happens. Efficiency on the bike isn't too bad and power is fine too, but endurance takes a major hit! In the first race of the year, I found myself in the winning break, only to sputter late in the race and lose over seven minutes in around 18 miles. Huh?! Really? Seven minutes?! Yup, endurance at race pace is gone. I was helping power it along effectively with eventual winner Sam Krieg, but lost everything with a lap to go. It went straight from being fine and powering along to nothing left in a really big hurry. Typically the only thing that would do such a thing to me is a bonk, but I only had a partial bonk. The majority of the problem was just a lack of big glycogen stores, mixed with overworked hamstrings that I now know haven't gotten enough work in the gym. Time to hit the bike a bit more.
Topic #2.... I need a job.
Anyone who might be interested in employing me, here's the important stuff:

So it's game on for the George's Series! I hadn't made up my mind if I wanted to do it or not until Cooley made me an offer I couldn't refuse. You'll find out in early June what the offer was. For all of you who are thinking I might be a threat for the overall, I can't say one way or another. My lengthy rides are extremely limited thus far (3 rides at 80 miles) and my intense aerobic efforts have been limited to only maybe 2 a week if you count running. It's going to be a lot tougher without the horsepower of a major team!
On a completely unrelated topic, here's a kinda cool shot: State Street after a bit of rain
